I’ll be bringing you updates, photos and match reports from around the UK as I follow the progress of Japan’s Men’s and Women’s football teams at London 2012. First up is a trip to Glasgow to see how the Under-23 Samurai Blue perform against one of the two pre-tournament favourites, followed by Newcastle and Coventry for their remaining two Group D fixtures against Morocco and Honduras respectively. Anticipating a second-placed finish in the group, a return trip to Newcastle is penciled in for 4 August for a quarter-final encounter most likely featuring Brazil. Any further matches will be covered should Japan progress beyond the last eight.
Picking up the women’s schedule at the quarter-final stage, an expected Group F win for Japan will take me to Glasgow on 3 August, followed by the semi-final and finals at Wembley Stadium on 6 and 9 August. As with the men’s team, this is subject to change should a first-place finish in in the group not transpire.
During my week in London I’ll also be spending several days at Japan House, the centre for information on the Japanese Olympic team, and will provide coverage of any interviews and panels held with the players should they medal at the Games, together with interesting news, views and updates as and when they occurs.
As always, if you would like to get in touch during London 2012, or if you have any questions or feedback about Japanese football or the site, send me an email or contact me on Twitter at Follow @lovefutebol
