Yutaka Akita joins coaching team at Tokyo Verdy

Yutaka Akita, the former Japanese international centre-back, who played 44 times for the Samurai Blue and whose career at Kashima Antlers spanned more than a decade, before further stints at Nagoya Grampus (formerly Nagoya Grampus Eight) and Kyoto Sanga, has been appointed assistant coach at Tokyo Verdy.

Akita, one of the finest Japanese defenders of his generation, who enjoyed four J.League Division One titles and two J.League Cup and Emperor’s Cup victories during his time with the Antlers, will join Ryoichi Kawakatsu at Verdy and leaves his current managerial position at Sanga.
