The Asahi Shimbun leads with news that Nobuhiro Ueno, previously head youth coach at Albirex Niigata, is to become interim manager in the wake of the resignation of Hisashi Kurosaki and head coach Takayuki Nishigaya after their 6-1 mauling at the hands of Jubilo Iwata on Matchday Twelve. Albi have been in a downward spiral since Kurosaki’s appointment for the 2010 J.League season, and the 46-year old Ueno, previously a coach at Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Kyoto Sanga and who had a spell in management at the JFL’s Zweigen Kanazawa, will lead the side until a permanent appointment has been made.
The Asahi also reports that the Nadeshiko and Under-23 Samurai Blue will play a double-header at the National Olympic Stadium on 11 July as a send-off for the London 2012 games. The women’s team will play 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup quarter-finalists Australia, while the men meet New Zealand.
Japan face Azerbaijan in 2012′s Kirin Challenge Cup on Wednesday, and Alberto Zaccheroni has named a squad including both Keisuke Honda and Shinji Kagawa in preparation for June’s three AFC Fourth Round Group B 2014 World Cup qualification matches. The full squad is as follows:
